Integrative Psychiatry
Online Psychiatric Evaluation for Adults in California
Every new adult patient at Mostly Human Psychiatry begins with a psychiatric evaluation, a detailed mental health evaluation covering history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. The findings shape a personalized plan, which may include medication management or other condition specific care.
Your first telehealth appointment with us is a full psychiatric evaluation, and it's built to feel like a conversation, not a form to get through. We'll talk through your mental health history, what's going on for you right now, what you've already tried, and what you're actually hoping care with us looks like. It's the single most important appointment you'll have here, because every recommendation that follows is built on it.
A Real Conversation, Not an Intake Form
There's no waiting room, no rushed ten minute slot. It happens through a secure telehealth appointment, with enough time set aside for you to actually be heard, the same approach described on our about page.
What Comes Next Depends on What We Hear
Nothing about your plan is decided before that conversation happens. Depending on what comes up in your evaluation, we might start with medication management, lean into our broader integrative psychiatry approach, or some combination of both. We hear often from patients that this is the first time a provider has had their whole story before recommending anything at all.
That includes the things that don't always fit neatly into a checklist, past experiences with providers that didn't go well, medications that helped but came with side effects you didn't love, or a diagnosis you were never quite sure fit. All of it is useful, and none of it needs to be polished before you share it.
Wherever You're Starting From
Your evaluation is also where we get clear on what you're dealing with, whether that's anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or PTSD. If you've been wondering whether ADHD explains what you've been experiencing, your evaluation can include an ADHD objective assessment, a more structured, measurable piece that goes beyond a symptom checklist.
You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis already in mind. Plenty of patients come to us simply knowing something feels off and unsure what to call it, and that's a completely reasonable place to start, the same way every psychiatric evaluation begins.
When Medication Is the Right Tool
Integrative doesn't mean anti-medication. For more severe symptoms, medication is an evidence-based and effective tool. Our medication management is designed to work alongside, not replace, supplements and lifestyle changes, and supportive therapy is part of every follow-up. If you're already taking a medication and want to come off it, medication tapering follows the same whole-person approach.
What to Have Ready
All you really need is a private space, a stable connection, and a bit of quiet time for your telehealth visit. No commute, no waiting room, just a scheduled conversation with your provider. If you've been in treatment before, jotting down past medications or providers ahead of time can help, but it's not required, we'll walk through it together.
It's also fine to show up without notes, without a tidy summary, even without the right words yet for what you're feeling. Plenty of the most useful evaluations start with 'I'm not totally sure how to explain this, but here goes,' and our contact page is exactly where that conversation begins.
